When it comes to the obesity epidemic that is literally dragging Americans down with sheer weight...it is impossible not to consider the negative effects of fast food. Americans love the convenience. Americans love time savers. And it would appear that Americans love grease and fat and oil. But that last could very well be a byproduct of the first two loves.
Americans loved time saving and convenience so much that they became addicted to the fatty, greasy foods served in their fast food drive thrus. Many see the high levels of fat and calories in fast food items as more addictive and negative to the nation's health than nicotine or alcohol. And not surprisingly, the problem is no longer isolated. It is spreading as more countries become Westernized.
In comparison to 20 years ago people in general are eating more. They are also quickly replacing home cooking with fast food, dining out and prepackaged meals/snacks. All of these changes are resulting in drastic increases in the risk of obesity.
When considering what is best for the individual (and society) regarding health...restaurant food is typically better than fast food. This is due to the lower nutritional content, higher caloric content, larger portion sizes, and higher levels of unhealthy fats. Experts also note that snack foods, juice and soda are all culprits that are inhibiting society in its attempt to fight the obesity epidemic.
Another great first step would be decreasing portion size. Smaller, more frequent meals lead to a decreased waist line. Regardless of how many times your grandmother tells you to eat your "3 square meals a day" you have to take into consideration the fact that times have changed. You aren't in dire need of any calories. Our food is jam packed with calories and fat. We, as a society, need to adopt a new set of priorities. We need to place general health higher on the list of priorities than convenience or time saving opportunities. By doing so we'll see that fast food isn't really a fabulous option.
Many are taking it upon themselves to create better day to day eating habits in order to improve their general health. And many already suffering negative effects of obesity and/or overweight are taking it upon themselves to alleviate their health problems by undergoing drastic weight loss treatments like the newly accessible homeopathic HCG weight loss formula.
